Noxon moves to 3-0 in conference with win

Noxon kept their win streak going on Friday, with a 45-6 win over White Sulphur Springs at home. The Red Devils now move to 3-0 in the Western C 6-Man division and are looking forward to traveling to Hot Springs on Friday to face the Savage Heat, who also are 3-0 in conference place.

Noxon had a bit of a slow start as they fumbled the ball on their first offensive start, but came back got a touchdown on their second possession with a 20-yard run by Antonio Lodi. That was the only touchdown for either team in the first quarter. The Red Devils found their groove in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns, including one right at the end of the half, while they kept Gardiner from scoring. In the second quarter, quarterback Brian Risch rushed 18 yards for a score, then threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Williams and another 20-yard pass to Justice Kayser for another score. That gave the Red Devils a huge advantage going into the locker room.

“We have some big plays,” Coach Lucas MacArthur said. “Our defense was on top of their game. We were able to shut them down all the way to the third quarter,” when the Bruins scored their only touchdown of the game.

In the third quarter, Lodi again found the end zone, twice, on a 28-yard run and then a 25-yard run. White Sulphur Springs’ only score of the game came on an 80-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. “Whenever they were on offense, they couldn’t score,” MacArthur said. “Our defense was working hard.” He noted that between Owen Ramsey and Lodi, there were 8.5 tackles, 7.5 sacks and fumbles caused by the Red Devils. He added that offensively, Brian Risch and Ricky Williams have connected well, with Risch, a sophomore, running the ball really well. MacArthur said that teams are watching Williams, “and he doesn’t disappoint. He is always out there making big catches.”

Noxon is now 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Hot Springs sits at 3-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. ‘This game could be a bit of a dog fight,” MacArthur said of Friday’s matchup. The coach added that his entire team did really well against White Sulphur Springs, and he is expecting good things out of them as they head to Hot Springs on Friday.
