Election misinformation

Regarding the letter from Gunner Junge (Sanders County Ledger, Nov. 17, 2022), there are many points that I could take issue with, but I will focus on only a few. Yes, the United States is a democracy and, yes, the United States is a republic. The representatives of this republic are selected through a democratic process. That is the modern definition of a democracy. Regarding the comparison of election results timing in Florida and Arizona, Mr. Junge appears to be confusing 1) "calling" election winners, and 2) counting all the votes in an election. Because none of the races in Florida were close, the winners could be "called" early in the counting process. For example, if a candidate has a 6% lead over an opponent and 97% of the vote has been counted (3% yet to be counted), the candidate with the 6% lead can be called the winner (the 3% remaining is not enough to change the winner). If you look at the races in Florida, none of the races were close, so the election winners were declared in a day or so after the polls closed. In Arizona, a swing state, many races were very close, requiring that nearly 100% of the votes needed to be counted to declare the winner. In fact, a week after the election, as Arizona continued to count those last few percent of the votes, if you looked at Florida you would have seen that they too were still counting the last few percent of their votes, even though those votes made no difference in the winners and losers in that state. As for "2000 Mules", it has been thoroughly debunked and I refuse to pay money to see it. When it is available for free, maybe I will watch it just for laughs.
