Ratliff opens senior season with Polson title

Thompson Falls wrestlers traveled to Polson last weekend to compete in the Owen Invitational, which is a two-day event. The Blue Hawks had an exceptional meet to launch the season; out of 18 teams they finished 13th with 59.5 points. “Overall I was very happy with our performance this past weekend. The Owen Invite is always a good test out of the gate and we know we have things to work on this week,” said Coach Mike Thilmony.

Senior Eli Ratliff won the championship in the 160-pound weight class. Thilmony shared that Ratliff wrestled very tough and smart, staying in good position throughout the match.

Weighing in at 126 pounds, Deigo Long took fourth place. “Diego had a great tournament and I thought he showed some great toughness as he fought through the consolation bracket,” said Thilmony.

Freshman Brock Ryan, weighing in at 138, took sixth place. “For him to place in this tournament as a freshman is outstanding!” said Thilmony.

The girls team also competed in the tournament. Thilmony said that they got to experience some good competition from other girls teams. Desani Bewick, weighing in at 100 pounds placed fourth, Jade Bewick, weighing in at 100, took sixth place and Veronica Bewick, weighing at 185 pounds, placed 4th.

The team will be in Plains on Thursday night, which will be the first action for the Plains team, and then both teams travel to Superior this weekend for the Bob Kinney Classic.
