THANKS TO MANY
This was an editorial written by Doc Eggensperger during the holidays.
Among the attributes of small-town living are the many acts of kindness, help and concern that friends and neighbors perform to enrich the lives of all, Thompson Falls is no exception.
There are countless deeds performed during the year that make life enriching and desirable here. And the high quality of that life is attested to by the number of former residents who would like to return and reside again if the economic opportunities made it possible.
During the past year, we’ve thought often of the many deeds performed without pay or adequate compensation by members of the community to make life better. We won’t include them all but here are some to whom thanks are due:
Thanks to Billie Chubb and Pat Hould for the fine musical treats they entice from their students.
Thanks to Mike Crowell, Mary Sanders and Kitty Brauer for the cheerful and prompt service they provide at the Post Office.
Thanks to Bob Purtzer and Gale Allen for their help when needed in transporting the Ledger for us.
Thanks to Gene Ostwald for such a fine school system.
Thanks to Hank Bennett, the retired Plains Druggist for making life more enjoyable and laughable for so many.
Thanks to our neighbor George West for picking up the daily newspaper at the highway each morning and delivering it to the front doors of the neighbors.
Thanks to another neighbor, Bob Cornett, for plowing the snow from our driveway each time it accumulates.
Thanks to neighbor Helen Rounsley for taking Gladys grocery shopping each Saturday morning and sparing us the chore.
Thanks to George McCallum and Chris Stobie for their good representation for the county at Helena.
Thanks to Millar Bryce for offering to fly his Aeronica “press plane” for aerial shots when asked during the year.
Thanks to game wardens Chet Lamoreux and Bob Henderson for remembering us when wildlife photo opportunities develop.
Thanks t Patrolman Harold Savik, Sheriff Jim Doxtater and Hot Springs Chief of Police Marvin Smith for providing details regarding accidents they cover.
Thanks to the gals and guys at the Courthouse who answer many questions for us during the year: Clerk and Reorder Dixie Vaught, Treasurer, June Thayer, Clerk of Court Carol Thomas, Assessor Pat Eldridge and Justice of the Peace Bob Beitz.
Thanks to Ginny Dyer and Linda McCurry for their fine efforts in raising more than $500 for the Sheriff’s Christmas Fund with their bazaar.
Thanks to Don Nicholson and Eileen Wilson for the fine guidance they provide the 4-H program.
Thanks to Gary Nelsen at Noxon for always lending support for everything worthwhile for the Noxon community.
Thanks to Jim Newman for taking over as mayor of Hot Springs and straightening things out there.
Thanks to Ron Humphrey for keeping us informed on activities and projects of the Cabinet Ranger Station.
Thanks to Inez Sullivan for the fine job she does in furnishing publicity concerning activities of the Woman’s Club.
Thanks to the Search and Rescue units for the many times they leave warm houses to launch a search for a lost hunter or aid an accident victim.
Thanks to, too, to all the ambulance units of the county who provide such a vital health service.
Thanks to Marge Peacock for spark plugging community projects.
Thanks to the fine ministers of all our churches for home visits, hospital visits, and providing spiritual guidance to anyone at any time.
Thanks to the many, many others who provide news, and help in many other ways to keep this community functioning.
We wish each and every one of you a sincere Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
