Plains defeats Troy at home

Last Saturday was Western Night in Plains and wins for the Horsemen and Trotters. The entire evening was filled with enthusiasm from supporting fans on both sides.

The Horsemen beat the Trojans 46-40 in a fierce match-up. The game started out slow on the offense with Plains trailing in the first quarter 8-4. In the second quarter Jayden Weeks made two three-point shots in a row and Plains was ahead 18-16 at the half.

In the third quarter the battle continued with Darren Standeford making a two-point shot a second before the buzzer and putting the Horsemen in the lead 33-30. In the fourth quarter the Horsemen pulled ahead for the win.

“We held our composure and were happy to win,” said Coach Tyrel Allen. He added that they didn’t win any games last year.

Horsemen senior Weeks and sophomore Standenford both scored 18 points. Weeks made four out of nine in his three-point attempts and Standeford got six rebounds and five assists. Eduardo Perianez scored eight points and made six rebounds and five steals and Zayden Allen achieved seven rebounds for the team.

Allen shared that the team is using this game as a learning experience to execute plays to keep turnovers from happening.

In the girls game the Trotters triumphed against the Trojans 54-34. The Trotters started off fighting from the get-go with Carlie Wagoner making the first points in the quarter, ending 14-11, the Trotters in the lead.

Jaelyn Carr made the final three-point shot to end the half and double the lead, 32-16. Kassidy O’Keefe started off the third quarter with a three-point shot and Carr made another three-pointer to double the score again. Amy Hill made the final shot to end the quarter with the Trotters prevailing 46-22. The Trotters kept their shooting momentum up in the fourth quarter to win the game.

The leading scorer was Wagoner with 16 points, Carr put up 13 points and Lexie Deming scored 10 points. Coach Kylie Ishler said that O’Keefe played a great game with hardly any turnovers. “Every player had success so it was a fun game to play,” said Ishler.
