The Lady Red Devils triumphed over the St. Regis Tigers on Saturday, 54-48.
On the offense, the girls had good ball movement and everyone contributed to points, said Coach Cortney Vohs. Emily Brown had a high-scoring second quarter with 10 points and a total of 18 points for the game. “Seanna Richter and Callie Cano helped seal the deal in the fourth quarter,” said Vohs. Richter scored four points that quarter and a total of nine while Cano racked up eight.
“Our defense was slow to start but eventually the girls picked it up and were able to slow St. Regis down,” said Vohs.
As a team the girls had 17 defensive rebounds and 24 offensive rebounds. They came away with 15 assists and a total of 13 steals.
The boys team hung in there in a tough high scoring game losing 85-60 to St. Regis. Coach Mike Benson said that his five strong team played a mighty opponent but kept up the momentum. The Tigers started out at the head having a 25-point lead in the second quarter. The Red Devils were able to maintain the 25-point distance till the end. “We are turning in the right direction,” said Benson.
Player Shane Murray scored 29 points and made 18 rebounds; Zach Storsaali scored five points and had four rebounds; Sam Christensen scored five points and had two rebounds; Ricky Williams shot 16 points and made eight rebounds and Justice Kayser scored five points and made two rebounds.
