The Plains/Hot Springs wrestling team traveled to Eureka last weekend to compete in the Buzz Lucey tournament. Buzz Lucey was a wrestler from Eureka who went undefeated for a majority of his career. Coach Jesse Jermyn said that Lucey’s granddaughter was there competing. There were 11 teams in the competition.
Gavin Schrenk wrestled in the 113-pound weight class winning two out of three matches to place second in the competition. Jacob Schulze placed third in the 126-pound weight class winning three out of four matches. Drew Carey achieved a first place win in the 132-pound weight class, beating out three opponents. Winning the 138-pound weight class was John Waterbury. Spur Ryan earned a fourth place win in the 160-pound class, winning three out of five matches.
In the girls competition, Lillian MacDonald placed second in the 152-pound class. Jermyn said that Lily wrestled great and her last match went into overtime. He also said that Beau Crabb as a freshman did well and that John Thurston had some really close matches with small mistakes.
“Everyone wrestled well this weekend,” said Jermyn.
