The boys Savage Heat got their third win of the season against the Superior Bobcats Saturday with a 51-44 triumph. Hot Springs upped their record to 3-7 while Superior dropped to 3-6. The teams were tied 26-26 at the half with Hot Springs turning on the heat in the third quarter to lead 35-26. “The guys are really starting to buy in and play as a team,” said Coach Reiley Winebrenner. Senior Garth Parker led the team with 27 points while Weston Slonaker racked up 12 points.
Tuesday's game against Two Eagle River ended in a 58-44 point loss for the Savage Heat. The Savage Heat girls, however, were able to show off their team skills at last Tuesday's game against Two Eagle Riverending in a 47-40 win. Coach Richard Jackson said that their “fast-break” is coming along. The Savage Heat were trailing behind until mobilizing in the fourth quarter to score a mighty 27 points. “They never gave up,” said Jackson. Senior Lily DeTienne was on fire scoring 24 points and Kara Christensen 10. The girls were 21 for 31 from the free throw line.
On Saturday the girls Savage Heat got stomped on by the number one team, the Bobcats, 63-33. Superior shot out fast in the beginning only letting up in the third quarter where Hot Springs was able to score 12 to their nine.
The Savage Heat girls shot 53% from the free-throw line. Jackson said that they missed a lot of bunny shots and lay-ups which is an easy fix. DeTienne led the team with14 points.
Hot Springs will be hosting Noxon this Friday for a second match of the season.
