Hawks undefeated

TF softball adds victories over Whitefish, Eureka

The Blue Hawks softball team led with flying colors at Tuesday's home game against the Whitefish Bulldogs. By the end of the second inning the Hawks were up 3-0 and then the Bulldogs started the third inning with a gain of one run. But the Hawks quickly took charge when it was their turn to bat. With one out and the bases loaded, Gabbi Hannum hit a double and the runs surged from 11 to 14. Then Hannum stole third and stole home to make it a 15-1 point game. Still with one out and the bases loaded, Liv McCormick got a walk and the game ended at 16-1.

The losing team's head coach may elect to end the game if there's a 15 run difference after three innings.

"Games went as expected. We put a high standard on ourselves and that's the motivation," said Coach Jared Koskela. The Blue Hawks had ten total hits, ten runs the batter moved to home and seven walks. Pitcher McCormick struck out four players, walked one and pitched two hits.

Koskela said that he challenged the team to get more XBH (extra base hits) and that's what they got against Whitefish.

Thompson Falls claimed victory over the Lincoln County Lions at home on Friday, 12-3. The Lady Hawks led 1-0 in the first inning, 1-0 in the second, 3-1 in the third, 5-1 in the fourth, 7-3 in the fifth and then rocketed in the sixth with five runs to end the inning at 12-3. The Lady Lions weren't able to get a run in the seventh inning.

The Lions had nine hits to the Blue Hawks six and both teams got five walks. Olivia Fitchett pitched three innings, with five strike-outs, two walks and three runs. Sarah Koskela pitched two innings, pitching two hits, three walks and two strike-outs. McCormick pitched two innings, with four hits and one strike-out.

"Our chemistry is showing and we are having fun regardless of the situation. We started slow in both games. As the season rolls we need to start faster with production," said Koskela.

The Blue Hawk JV softball team had three wins and one loss last week. The Hawks beat the Bulldogs JV team 19-6 on Tuesday; lost to the Lady Lions 10-20 on Friday; and beat the Bonners Ferry Badgers 15-8 in the first game and 17-16 in the second game on Saturday.

The Blue Hawks will be traveling this week to play St. Ignatius on Thursday and Deer Lodge this Saturday.
