Trotters prevail in Troy

On Saturday the Trotters softball varsity and junior varsity teams traveled to Troy to take on the Trojans. In five innings the Plains varsity girls achieved a shutout score of 10-0. Carlie Wagoner hit a homerun on her first chance up to bat. It was a strike-out game for Maddy Blood, who pitched all five innings. She slung nine strike-outs and the last one for the win. The Trotters banked a total of ten hits.

Coach Kati Mitchell said that the Trotters junior varsity team fought a hard game, but came up one run short to lose 15-14 against Troy. It was in the last inning that their bats got hot, said Mitchell. The score was 11-7 at the bottom of the sixth and the Trotters scored seven runs to Troy's four.

Aubree Butcher slammed a triple to the left center fence. Piper Bergstrom executed eight strikeouts. “Aliyah Heathers did a great job catching all seven innings in her first JV game,” said Mitchell.

Plains will be hitting the road on Thursday to play Loyola. Then they will be playing at home against Eureka on Saturday and hosting a game against Mission on Monday.
