MAC ends Blue Hawk win streak

If was a busy week on the road for the Thompson Falls softball team last week. On Tuesday the Blue Hawks beat the Troy Trojans 14-4 in five innings. It was 2-1 after the first inning and then in the second inning the Hawks put it in high gear gaining seven runs and keeping Troy to zero.

Senior Liv McCormick struck-out six players and walked zero in three innings. Pitcher Olivia Fitchett executed five strike-outs and walked one in her two innings as pitcher. The team had a total of 11 hits for the game.

The JV team had a close game losing 14-13 to Troy.

Thompson Falls had their first loss for the season to MAC (Mission Arlee Charlo) Thursday at Mission, 16-1. Thompson Falls started the game ahead 1-0 in the first inning and then fell by nine runs in the second. MAC was up to bat 27 times to the Blue Hawks 14 times.

The Thompson Falls JV team had another close loss of 8-7.

On Saturday the Lady Hawks traveled to Deer Lodge to compete with the Powell County Wardens. There they prevailed with a 20-3 win in three innings. The score was 3-3 in the first inning before the Lady Hawks took off to gain nine runs in the second and eight in the third and final inning. Fitchett fired in the pitches to strike-out five Warden players.

At 50% the batting average for the Hawks was exceptional, they were up 22 times to bat and hit 11 of those. “Hitting is contagious. Once one gets a hit and then another, it's contagious and everyone gets a hit. That’s how Saturday went,” said Coach Jared Koskela.

The Blue Hawk JV team also had a win of 28-10, bolstering their season record to 4-3. The varsity girls record is 5-1.

The Lady Hawks varsity team will be playing on the Griz field in Missoula this Friday and Saturday and the junior varsity team will compete at Fort Missoula. On Tuesday, the Blue Hawks host a home game against Troy.
