Trotter bats on fire at home

Coach Kati Mitchell said that the week went really well for the Trotters softball varsity and JV teams. On Thursday the varsity team traveled to Missoula to take on the Loyola Breakers. The Trotters were defeated 1-0 in seven innings. "At Loyola our defense was impeccable, we only had one error," said Mitchell.

Plains had four total hits and multiple runners left in every inning. Carlie Wagoner pitched all seven innings and with eight strike-outs, Mitchell said that her pitching was phenomenal.

A home game against Eureka earned the Trotters a second win for the season. They won 19-10. Maddy Blood was the starting pitcher for the game and finishing up was pitcher Piper Bergstrom. The Trotters had 12 hits and four errors.

The JV team also triumphed against Eureka with a score of 22-8 in four innings. Kassidy O'Keefe kicked off the first inning with a triple. Pitching for the game were Aubree Butcher and Bergstrom.

It was a homerun game at home on Monday against MAC. In the first inning MAC was up by five and O'Keefe hit a home run to gain four runs for the Trotters. In the second inning, MAC hit a few of their own whoppers, batting three home runs in a row. First baser Butcher got a base hit but the team got three outs before any runs were made, to end the inning at 15-4.

In the third inning O'Keefe made the catch at center field for the first out and again for the third out, keeping MAC to a one point gain. Bergstrom hit a double and Blood hit a single, with Bergstom making the one run for the inning.

The score was 16-5 at the start of the fourth inning. MAC knocked out the hits to score nine runs. Izzy Crabb got a base hit and a steal to second. Wagoner hit a double, Jaelyn Carr popped it into center field for a double and Marissa Young cracked a home run. The game ended at 25-9.

The Trotters will be playing in Missoula Friday and Saturday in the Round Robin. Varsity will be at the Griz field.
