A local singing group has been practicing all year and is ready for their debut performances.
Rob Viens of Inspirare Association in Thompson Falls founded the Clark Fork Valley Singers in January. Viens had sent out a call for local singers to join the group, who informally performed for Christmas on Main Street in Thompson Falls “to provide a venue for people who love to sing and to contribute to the larger community,” he said. “The goal is to foster intergenerational community singing, provide a musical presence at Sanders County community events and provide an opportunity to discover and foster local talent.”
Viens has worked as a private voice teacher, vocal rehab specialist and choral, opera and music theater conductor and said he provides a welcoming environment for singers of all ages and abilities to help them experience the joy of singing and performing together. “There is so much value in singing - mental and physical health, community spirit and unity, intergenerational activity, a sense of belonging, and fun,” he expressed.
The group has nine members with a variety of experience and abilities, but Viens said they all share the love of community singing. In June, they will perform Saturday, June 3, at Plains Day and Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at The Rex in Thompson Falls. Viens said the June performances will be a mix of folk and traditional music of the USA and beyond that will get your toes tapping and your voices singing.
Viens said talent is everywhere. “All it takes is someone to draw it forth and give it a platform to succeed.” He added that the group is always open to new members, and will provide recordings to help members learn their parts.
