Main Street paving set to begin Friday

by Annie Wooden

The project to update curbs and approaches along Main Street continues in Thompson Falls. Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) stated that Razz Construction will begin road milling at the end of the week, with paving continuing through next July 21.

During the paving and milling portion of the project, parking along Main Street in Thompson Falls will be closed. Lori Warden with Upward Public Relations said residents and visitors are encouraged to park on side streets south of Main Street. Some parking may be available in lots on the north side of Main Street depending on construction work, she added.

Traffic will be down to a single lane during paving, and motorists can expect traffic delays.

This week, crews also anticipate starting improvements on the entrance approach to the Thompson Falls post office and the exit approach of the Whitefish Credit Union – Thompson Falls Branch. An alternate entrance to the post office will be provided off Main Street. The bank drive-through will be closed during construction, but the branch will remain open to

walk-in customers.

The Thompson Falls – Urban project is rehabilitating Main Street/MT 200 to enhance roadway safety features, improve pedestrian access, provide a smoother driving surface, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

This project is part of MDT’s effort to improve pedestrian infrastructure statewide. Specifically,

30 updated sidewalk curb ramps will enhance safety and accessibility for all users along the Main Street/MT 200 corridor. These upgrades will bring sidewalk access into compliance with the ADA standards. The project also includes improvements to lighting, drainage, and updated signage.
