Sanders County detective retires

After 38 years of public service, Martin Spring has decided to hang up his badge. He first came to Sanders County 18 years ago when he was hired as an undercover police officer for the drug task force. At that time he was seen in ratty clothes and had a scruffy beard. Prior to transferring to Sanders County, Spring worked in Missoula and Texas.

A retirement party was held last Thursday at the Sanders County Courthouse, Spring was honored by the department for his work as a detective in the sheriff's office. There he was given gifts from his wife Tammy, coworkers and friends. Spring spoke of his work while on the force and what his future plans will be.

"I enjoyed my time working here, and the 14 homicides and 9 attempted homicides," he said. But he does not plan to be completely finished, as he stated, "I will be on reserve."

In December Spring has a vacation planned for New Zealand. There he will spend two weeks on a guided fly fishing trip.
