The par fives and par threes at River’s Bend Golf Course made unlikely pairs just like the quirky comic characters as the Over The Hill Gang played a round of Mutt and Jeff on Monday. The players totaled their scores from holes 11, 12, 14 and 17 for the fun. Gary Thompson won the title of Mutt with the low gross of 18 on the four holes, and Dennis Gripp was dubbed Jeff with a low net of 12.
Thompson also had the low gross round for all nine holes with a 41, while Doug Deck shot the low net for the men with a 32. Lana Nolen and Jan Thompson carded the respective low gross and net for the women with a 47 and 37. Thompson also had the women’s long drive on No. 18.
Steve Fairbank was closest to the pin in two shots on No. 10, Chris Gross sank the long putt on No. 11, Jens Jantzen took that honor on No. 12, Rusty Haggard on No. 13, Ron Beaty on No. 15, Patrick Walt on No. 16, BruceSterling on No. 17 and Wally Gibe on No. 18. Gibe also was closest to the pin on No. 14, Scott Garr’s drive was closest on No. 17, Dave Garr hit the long drive for those 70 and over on No. 15 and Ed Mack had the men’s long drive on No. 18.
Chip-ins for the round were nabbed by Al Luckow on hole 11, Deck on No. 17, Sterling on No. 16 and Roger Webster on No. 15. The birdies were also flying Monday, with one-under holes for Bruce Craw (No. 11), Gibe (No. 14), Thompson (No. 16), Deck (No. 17) and Sterling (No. 16).
