The Home Ec building was full Thursday afternoon with fair goers and 4-H members waiting to be interviewed with their projects. The Cloverbud group is for ages 8 and under. Carla Kinzie was the interviewer. She said that she really enjoys the young novices. Her first participant was Michaela Champneys. She had two items to show.
"I painted a large mushroom and made a log cabin scene," she said. Her log cabin and accessories were structures made out of wood.
Ayla Rehbein age 10 from Plains entered her flower photo in the photography and expressive arts category. She had two judges interviewing her. Her photo won a purple ribbon.
For the archery category, Makaylyn Reinhardt made a poster to show her knowledge and accomplishments with the sport. And in the western heritage for shooting sports category, the Doble children, Dillyn, Sawyer and Sage, entered their hooped beaver pelts. All received blue ribbons for their elaborate frames.
Other winners were, Georgia Uski FFA senior grand champion, from Hot Springs with her star wars helmet. FFA reserve champion senior was Lauryn Aldridge, also from Hot Springs, with her welded roses.
There were four Plains 4-H recipients, first was, welding reserve champion senior, Mackenzie Tulloch, Leadership, grand champion senior, Mikiah Cook, and reserve champion senior, Claire Wrobleski..
The pocket pets reserve champion junior was John McNamara on how to care for a tarantula. Woodworking grand champion was junior Easton Deal from Trout Creek with his small table, reserve champion was senior Theo Nygaard from Thompson Falls with his bench, and reserve champion junior Grady Dana from Trout Creek for his axe handle.
Entomology grand champion was junior Colt Browning from Plains with his window box of insects.
Makaylyn Reinhardt from Plains had a poster to show her Shooting Sports that earned her grand champion as a junior. Reserve champion junior was Elsie Myers from Plains for her archery booklet.
Sport Fishing grand champion junior was Elsie Myers for her booklet and Reserve champion junior ws Titus Myers from Plains with his booklet. And the grand champion was junior McNamara for his educational display. McNamara also won gardening grand champion with his huge pumpkins and story poster. The Gardening reserve champion went to junior Kendall Spurr from Plains who had a plants and manure display.
The cooking grand champion junior was Anaelle Avilla from Plains for her homemade bagels. Reserve champion was junior Ailie Avilla from Plains for homemade English muffins.
Sewing and textiles grand champion junior was Annaelle Avilla for her maxi skirt. The knitting grand champion junior was Katherine Wrobleski from Plains with her baby sweater. Reserve champion junior was Marina Tulloch from Plains with her party octopus.
Cake decorating reserve champion senior was Alexis Russell from Noxon with her cow cake.
Kara Christensen's lighting collage earned grand champion senior among the photography entries, while Elsie Myers of Plains earned junior grand champion with a macro flowers photos and McNamara was reserve champion with his bug's eye view series.
In visual arts, Melodie Cook's acrylic painting earned a grand champion senior ribbon and Audrey Fairbank's painting on canvas was grand champion junior. Reserve champion ribbons went to senior Claire Wrobleski for an illuminated writing entry and junior Moriah Champneys with a bee drawing.
Lauren Hudson of Thompson Falls, a senior 4-H member, won reserve champion in leathercraft for a belt she made.
