NOXON 38,
TWIN BRIDGES 6
The Noxon Red Devils put on a fantastic performance in their first home game of the football season on Friday, outsourcing the Twin Bridges Falcons 38-6 and advancing their record to 2-0 on the season.
The Falcons were the first to score at Noxon High School Friday, but the Red Devils quickly answered when Antonio Lodi ran in for a touchdown and then Brian Risch threw a gigantic 64-yard pass to Ricky Williams to score. Lodi took the ball across the goal line yet again before the quarter was over and the first buzzer sounded with Noxon up 24-6. Justice Kayser ran one in for Noxon in the second quarter and Ian Brown got the final score of the game in the third with an 8-yard run. Both teams were scoreless in the final quarter. "We have big goals, wanting to win the west," Coach Lucas MacArthur stated. The Red Devils travel to Lima this Saturday.
JOLIET 13,
THOMPSON FALLS 18
The Blue Hawk football team got some stadium time Friday as they traveled to Coach Koskela's alma mater of Montana Tech to face off against Joliet. Though the Hawks fell 18-13 to Joliet, they gained valuable experience to push them as the season progresses.
The Hawks scored all of their points in the first half, leading at the end of the first quarter 7-6 after senior Hayden Hanks ran the ball in for six and Eric Boddy made good on the extra point. In the second quarter, Joliet answered with a short run into the end zone. But the Hawks proved they were a force to be reckoned with when quarterback Bryson LeCoure connected with Nick Tessier on a 14-yard pass and strengthened their lead at halftime to 13-6.
But Joliet came back from halftime with a renewed energy and scored once in each of the final quarters to seal the win. In the third quarter, Joliet connected on a massive 47-yard pass to score, and then in the fourth threw another successful pass into the end zone.
LeCoure was 14-for-25 and passed for 240 yards against Joliet. He also led the team in rushing with 39 yards, while Kaden Robins added 36, Sam Burgess 27, Braxton Dorscher 18 yards on two carries and Hanks two yards. Hanks also led the team in tackles with four, while LeCoure, Dorscher, Burgess and Noa Stevens added three each.
Tessier led the Hawks in receiving with 128 yards while Dorscher connected for 77, Braedon Ferris garnered 25 and Justin Haagenson 10. Thompson will battle against Manhattan at home this Friday.
SUPERIOR 58,
PLAINS 8
Plains traveled to Superior on Friday to face off against the Bobcats. The Horsemen fell 58-8. Superior dominated the first half, scoring 12 points in the first quarter and 30 in the second as Plains went into the locker room scoreless. The Horsemen rallied to score the only touchdown of the third quarter before Superior came back in the fourth to secure the win. Plains travels to Deer Lodge this Friday to face off Park City.
HOT SPRINGS - RESCHEDULED
Hot Springs was set to host Alberton for six-man football action last Friday, but the game was canceled. Savage Heat Coach Jim Lawson said Alberton didn't have enough players, so the game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, September 11, at Hot Springs High School. He said his team will have two games that week, on Monday and Friday, but that was the only time that worked for both teams.
Hot Springs will go into the Alberton game with a 1-0 record after they beat West Yellowstone in their first game of the season. "It was a tough game for us, but the kids played hard. West Yellowstone improved from last year, but it was a good win for us on the road," Lawson said. With the team losing just one senior from last year, the Savage Heat have a good foundation on which to grow this year. "They got a lot of experience last year and came a long way. It's good for them to see how far they've come."
