The Blue Hawks and Horsemen traveled to run in the Mission invitational for a hot and sunny run last Friday.
Thompson’s Cael Thilmony won seventh out of the 69 boys running, crossing the finish line in 18 minutes, 29 seconds. Plains’ John Owen Jermyn 19:08 placed 13th helping the Horsemen boys team into fourth place. Blake Shusterman (22:12) earned 36th for the Hawks, while Plains’ Kalem Ercanbrack (19:59) obtained 20th, with Drew Carey (21:32) coming in 30th.
Plains Marina Tulloch got second for the girls team with a time of 21:36, Thompson’s Faith Palmer (21:52) was hot on her tail earning her third. Trotter Ashley Ferlan (24:50) placed seventh while Peyton Wasson earned herself a time of 27:56. Jaden Bewick for the Hawks got a time of 32:22 winning her 33rd place.
“This was an interesting meet. The heat was tough, but we worked on staying strong mentally. We had several runners sick or with some minor injuries, so they stayed home to rest/recover/recuperate and prepare for our races next week,” coach Sarah Naegeli said after the meet.
Plains and Thompson Falls competed in the Hawks’ home race on Tuesday at River’s Bend Golf Course. Results of that race will be published in next week’s Ledger. The teams then head to Missoula on Saturday for the Mountain West, said to be a large meet. “Typically there are 200-400 runners in each race. Great preparation for state,” Naegeli stated.
