Mayor's Corner

by Rusti Leivestad, Thompson Falls Mayor

Having moved from our home in Trout Creek where we dug a well for our water system, put in the septic system and shared maintenance and plowing of a quarter mile of private road (all at our expense), I truly enjoy the benefits of living in Thompson Falls. The sound of the snow plow in winter's early hours makes me smile as I remember the "good old days."

Public Works took me for a tour of Thompson Falls' infrastructure last week. It was eye opening how much the team accomplishes and the challenges that some of our older systems present. Thompson Falls has committed to improvements that replace/upgrade and in some cases provide infrastructure where it doesn't exist. The next couple of years may be inconvenient at times... excavations, constructions crews and delays. Sewer Phases 1 and 2 are almost complete; Phases 3 and 4 are in completion of planning, with requests for bids going out. After contracts are awarded, some work is projected for the end of 2024 and scheduled to be completed in 2026. There is also a water project in our future that I'll talk more about in a future column.

Thanks to everyone stopping by and contacting us with questions and comments.

I am wishing everyone a good holiday season and all the best in the New Year.

If you have any questions, call City Hall at (406) 827-3557.
