Hannum fourth at CMR Classic

The Thompson Falls wrestling team hit the road taking on the C.M. Russell Holiday Classic this past weekend. There was no shortage of competition as 57 schools came together.

Blue Hawk senior Max Hannum proved to be a master of the mats, getting a bye for his first round. He then went on to pin Joshua Sironi of Billings. For round three Hannum pinned Gage Allen of Great Falls, which put him in the quarterfinal. Going up against Alexander Beck of Missoula, Hannum was able to get the pin, but ultimately lost by decision in the semifinal. Hannum was still able to place in the top eight getting fourth, the only Blue Hawk wrestler to place.

Weston Block had a bye his first and second round, then lost by a pin but was able to come back to get the pin against Owen Pesanti of Anaconda. Block went on to lose by decision over his last match.

Blue Hawk Deigo Long also had a first round bye, then went on to pin Asher Clayton of Choteau. For the third round Long went on to win by another pin, but lost by disqualification for his last round.

In the 138 weight class Brock Ryan won by pin in his first and second round, then in round three he lost by tech fall over Daniel Every of Flathead. Ryan went on to win by decision in the next round, but lost by pin in the final round.

For the 145 weight class Hawk wrestler Tate Bosker had a bye for the first round. Going on he lost by pin to Holden Bankert from Park county (Livingston). He had a bye for round three, and then lost by pin in the final fourth round.

Noa Stevens proved to be a powerhouse on the mat getting a bye for his first round. He went on to pin Asher Nelson of Cascade, and then went on to pin his next opponent. Going into the quarterfinal Stevens was unable to pin Kale Baumann of Great Falls.

Desani Bewick pinned her first opponent, but was pinned in her next two matches. Hawk wrestler Veronica Vega had a bye for her first round, lost her second by pin and had another bye for her third round. Ultimately she went on to be pinned in her final round. Jaden Bewick started off with a loss in the first round by pin, but was able to come back to get a pin in her second round. In her third round she won by decision, but ultimately lost the last round by a pin.

“We knew going in it would be a lot of tough competition. The girls really made me proud. It's like new confidence for them, ” said coach Mike Thilmony.
