Unique offerings available at Plains boutique

Maralee Schall had an experience that forced her to take the leap and open the store that she had been wanting to for years. For eight years Scholl worked from home in her basement. She sold Lularoe clothing and then started buying and selling accessories such as jewelry. Selling the clothing and other items online, Schall said she became bored with the business. Scholl knew that she wanted to do more but was reluctant to leave the security of her home.

In July 2023, the decision was made for her. Her basement flooded. "I didn't want to move my business back into the basement," Schall said. This was the push she needed. The Brazil Building in Plains had a vacancy in one of the business suites so she moved into the space on August 15.

"My online store did well but not as well as my new store," Schall said. In her shop Schall has gone in a different direction. "I stopped selling the Lularoe clothing line. I enjoy buying all the new items that I offer in my store," Schall added. One of her favorite new items are the Moroccan floor cushions. They are about a foot tall and are made of durable rugs in soft colors with deep plush, not shag, mattes. "They are sturdy enough to use outside," she said. Some people like them as a pet bed, Schall said.

The shop has clothing, macrame wall decor, and jewelry that includes welded bracelets. The chains are cut to fit the individual and are sold by the inch. The bracelet or anklet is welded on and is permanent. Schall said she has charms to choose from to add if wanted. Earrings are a new item. She said one line of earrings raises money to help fight human trafficking. Fresh cut flowers are brought in weekly. From natural deodorants to incense and scented burning sticks, to oils and sprays. The store has a lot to offer. Large candles in mason type jars give off fresh scents of plums or a walk in the woods. The blood orange and vetiver grounding spray is popular, Schall said. The bags that hang behind Schalls desk are created out of old military tents. Along with the Moroccan stools, they are made from repurposed materials.

Though Schall was born in Dillon, Montana, she grew up in Plains. Her husband Kelly is from Plains. They have a son and twin daughters. "Plains has been my home for many years," Schall said. "I am very excited to have my own business location in my hometown," she concluded.

The Posh Hippy is located at 206 West Stanton. Store hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
