PLAINS 44
The Horsemen took on the Superior Bobcats, losing at home 44-50.
Swiftly the Bobcats were able to win the tip-off. It would be the Horsemen who would earn the first points on the board. Putting full-court pressure on the Bobcats, Plains was able to take the lead quickly in the first quarter. It was short-lived as Superior was able to break past the Horsemen’s full court defense. With a buzzer beater half-court shot the Bobcats tied up the game at the end of the first. Headed into the second Plains was able to capitalize off a rebound to gain the first points, taking the lead once again. Both teams would go point for point until Superior was able to pull ahead before the half, making the score 19-25.
Coming back from the half, the Bobcats were swift to earn the first points keeping their steady lead. The Horsemen were unable to answer with a basket of their own, and once again the Bobcats were able to keep their lead going into the final quarter. A Superior foul early in the final quarter would put Plains on the line to gain the first points. The Bobcats were quick to answer back with their own basket. With less than a minute left Superior was up by six points. Plains was no match for the quick footed full-court pressure the Bobcats put on them, ultimately leading to a Superior win.
The Horsemen will hit the road taking on the Mission Bulldogs on January 18.
PLAINS 43,
SUPERIOR 33
The Trotters went on to host the Superior Bobcats taking the win 43-33.
Superior came out fast and quick, putting full-court pressure on Plains. This pressure would cause both teams to go back and forth scoreless until the Bobcats were able to capitalize off a Trotter foul putting the first points on the board. Plains was able to break past the aggressive full court pressure the Bobcats put on the Trotters to get their first points on the board Superior would keep Plains to minimal scoring in the first quarter. Headed into the second the Trotters did their best to break past the intense defense of the Bobcats, putting the first points on the board Both teams would go basket for basket until Superior was able to pull ahead by 6 at the half.
“It took us a while to adjust to Superior's physical style of play but once we did, it was fun to watch!” Coach Brooks Sanford said.
Coming into the third the Trotters had new fire, working together to break down the Bobcat defense, keeping them almost scoreless for the quarter. Sanford said the young team did a tremendous job of handling full court pressure, running their offense and getting easy buckets after the half. Headed into the final quarter the young team didn’t falter. Keeping and gaining momentum they were able to keep Superior on their toes, and only to eight points for the quarter securing the at-home win.
“As our team continues to build confidence, overcome obstacles and mature as basketball players, they will surprise some teams,” Sanford said excitedly.
Plains travels to Mission on Thursday this week and then Eureka on Saturday.
