Savage Heat end year at divisional

The Savage Heat girls went 0-2 at the Western C Divisional tournament in Frenchtown last weekend, ending an exciting season in the postseason.

After finishing second in District 14C play, on Thursday, Hot Springs met West Yellowstone in the first round of the divisional tournament, falling 45-22. The team struggled on the court early, scoring just four points to West Yellowstone's 20 in the first quarter. The Wolverines continued the attack in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 33-12 at the half.

The deficit was too much for Hot Springs to overcome as West Yellowstone kept the momentum in the second half to take the win.

Brooke Jackson led Hot Springs in scoring with six points, Kara Christensen had six points and seven rebounds, senior Lauryn Aldridge had four points and a team-high eight rebounds, Erica Cannon added four points and five rebounds, and Kora Hensrude had two points.

The loss sent Hot Springs to Friday's consolation bracket, where they lost to Seeley-Swan 63-38 in the morning game. Hot Springs was roaring as the game started and took a 8-4 lead early in the first quarter before the Blackhawks tied the game at 12 apiece with a three-pointer as the quarter ended.

The teams traded baskets and again were tied at 23 points each before Seeley-Swan went into turbo mode and took the lead 31-24 before the half ended. The Blackhawks gained to 49-32 in the third. In the fourth quarter, the defenses took the reins as each team kept their opponents to minimal points early on before the Blackhawks again found their rhythm and took the win to advance in the tournament, ending the season for the Savage Heat.

Aldridge led the team in her last game as a Savage Heat with 12 points, Christensen added 11, Cannon six points, Callie Cano five points and Jackson four points.
