County readies school ballots

Ballots are being prepared for local school district elections. Sanders County Elections staff said ballots will be mailed Monday for school elections in Plains and Noxon. Hot Springs, which has one board position open and is asking voters to approve a levy, is running their own election.

In Noxon, two three-year positions are open on the school board, with Kyra Bosker, Annie Manning, Arthur Potts and Lars Swanson filing as candidates. Cassandra Hill was the only candidate to file for an open 2-year position. For the portion of the Noxon School District that lies within the Trout Creek Elementary zone, Amber Miskowitz is the sole candidate for a three-year position and Jim Byler for the one-year position. No candidates filed for the 2-year position for the Noxon school board within the Trout Creek district.

In Plains, three candidates are vying for two three-year positions, including Ellen Childress, Robert Cutlip and Monica Weedeman. Plains is also seeking a levy on the ballot this year.

In Hot Springs, Mandie DePoe was the only candidate to file for the open three-year position, and Faus Silvernale was the only candidate to run for the open Dixon school board position. Trout Creek School had one board opening, with Marian Stonehocker running unopposed. In Thompson Falls, board members Jeneese Baxter and Sandra Muster are running unopposed and will be elected by acclamation.

All ballots are being mailed for the school elections. Ballots must be returned to the elections office at the Sanders County Courthouse by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. If voters do not receive a ballot in the mail, the elections office can be reached at 406-827-6949.
