Plains welcomes golfers

The Plains and Thompson Falls golf teams met again on the Plains golf course for a full 18-hole match on Saturday. The Thompson Falls boys took fourth out of nine teams while the girls took second place out of five teams. The top team for the boys was Florence with a 122, St. Regis took second with 143, Eureka in third with 186, Thompson Falls with 200, Superior with 216, Loyola with 222 and Plains with 264. For the girls Florence once again took first place with 238, Thompson Falls followed with 253, Loyola with 254, Eureka with 258 and Plains with 408.

Blue Hawk senior Cael Thilmony finished in ninth place with a stunning score of 93, getting two pars, seven fairways and two greens in regulation. Theo Nygaard finished with a 96, also getting two pars. Chase Helvey scored a 113 and Braxton Dorscher finished with a 115 and only 38 putts.

For the Hawk girls, Sophia Chou finished in fifth place with a fabulous score of 106, and Aubrey Baxter came in behind her in sixth place with her score of 109. Baxter had two pars and found one green regulation. Solveig Nygaard finished seventh for the girls with her bright score of 113, getting two birdies, one par and swinging down 35 putts for the day. New golfer Olivia Naccarini finished with a 144 in her first 18-hole round of the season. New golfer Jaden Bewick finished with a 163.

"We have some strong girls on the team this season. Sophia and Aubrey have some experience to draw back on. Solveig is just mentally tough and is naturally picking up the game," said Thompson Falls coach Doree Thilmony.

For the Plains girls, Cheyenne Little Whirlwind shot a 140, Madi Peele was behind her with 160. Eleanor Bebb was close behind Peele with her score of 161, and Macey Malmend rounded it out for the girls with a score of 163.

For the boys Drew Carey led Plains with a score of 97, Brandt Snead proved his skills by getting a 101, while Wyatt Butcher finished with a 121, and Wyatt Miller a 161.

The teams face off again during a two-day event in Eureka this week on Wednesday and Thursday. On Saturday, Thompson Falls hosts the annual Gary Thompson Invitational at River's Bend Golf Course.
