Hawk takes home tourney

The golf season is busy for Thompson Falls and Plains, with the Hawks fresh off hosting their home meet last Saturday. The Hawks hosted the fifth annual Gary Thompson Invitational on Saturday, having eight boys teams and two girls teams compete, with a total of 46 boys and 13 girls.

Sophia Chou took first place in her home tournament with a score of 99, she had 33 putts, and found 10 fairways.

Aubrey Baxter took second place with her score of 102, she found nine fairways, and putted 35 for the round. Solveig Nygaard earned third place for Thompson with her score of 107, Olivia Naccarini earned a 142 which is her lowest score for the season.

"She is making better ball contact and when she figures out her putting, she will drop her scores quite a bit more." Thilmony stated.

Cael Thilmony got an 89, finding 10 fairways, two green in regulations, six pars and 35 putts. Theo Nygaard earned a 92, finding six fairways, four greens in regulation and 30 putts. Blake Shusterman behind with 110, Braxton Dorscher getting 114.

"Braxton had some trouble around the green, but I can guarantee he will be out there next week working on it and getting better." Coach Thilmony stated.

Chase Helvey ended it for the boys with a 117.

The Thompson Falls golf team took to the road last Wednesday and Thursday for the two-day Tobacco Valley invite in Eureka. The first day was at Indian Springs with Plains while the second was at Wilderness Club.

For the first round Cael Thimony earned a grand score of 98, he found four green in regulations, three pars, and 41 putts for the round. Theo Nygaard got a score of 100, putting low with only 33, he found himself with seven penalties, and six pars on the course. Braxton Dorscher earned 109, getting 33 putts, Blake Shusterman had his debut at Indian Springs earning a 118, and Chase Helvery ended with a 129.

Aubrey Baxter earned a 101 for the first round at Indian Springs putting her in the top 10, with a par and green in regulation her putts were 40.

"Aubrey has been reducing her strokes since the beginning of the season and I see her breaking into the 90's very soon." said coach Doree Thilmony.

Solveig Nygaard got a 101 as well, getting two pars and two greens in regulation, Sophia Chou ended the first round with a 106, finding one green in regulation. Olivia Naccarini ended with a 150.

For Plains Brandt Snead got a 92, Drew Carey with 123, and Wyatt Butcher with a 128. For the girls Macey Malmend scored a 160, Elenor Bebb behind with 179.

The second day was on the Wilderness Club, the course stretches over 500 acres and offers many championship challenges on each hole. For the second day Cael Thimony got a 90, finding seven fairways, three green regulations and 33 putts, he also earned four pars and one birdie. Theo Nygaard got a 93, he was able to find 10 fairways, three green in regulations and 32 putts, he was also able to find three pars. Braxton Dorscher earned a 115, Chase Helvery with a 129, and Blake Shusterman earned 141 for his second match of golf, getting a par for one hole.

Aubrey Baxter earned a score of 108, finding 11 fairways, one green in regulations, three pars, and four penalties and 42 putts earned her a tie for seventh place. Sophia Chou finished with a grand 112, putting her in a tie for 10th place.

"Sophie continues to steadily improve her mental game. She has a great swing and when she calms her nerves, can post some low scores." Thilmony said.

Solveig Nygaard posted a 123, and Olivia Naccarini earned a 160 for the Hawks.
