Hawks sweep competition

The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks took on the Bonner Ferry Badgers last Thursday taking the win 14-2. They then saw the Powell County Lady Wardens and the Anaconda Copperheads Saturday in a double header.

Bonners Ferry was able to get on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs. The Lady Hawks were able to answer back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead early. Both teams would go scoreless in the second inning, and Thompson would keep the Badgers to no runs in the top of the third inning. The soaring Lady Hawks would be able to score 10 runs at the bottom of the third inning taking a massive 13 run lead. They would keep Bonners Ferry scoreless in the fourth inning while gaining one more run to take the win.

Every Lady Hawk would score in this game with Olivia Harnett and Sarah Koskela each earning three runs for Thompson, while Mackenzie Robinson scored two, Olivia Fitchett, Gabi Hanum, Addie Traver, Annalise Fairbank, Brooklyn Cork, and Callie McGillis each earned one.

The Lady Hawks started their double header Saturday taking on the Powell county Lady Wardens, sweeping them in just three innings. Olivia Fitchett started on the mound for the Lady Hawks, pitching a three person no hit strikeout to start the game. She would go on to hit a double for the Hawks to score early at the bottom of the first. Sarah Koskela would also hit a double for the Hawks to bring the score 3-0. Fitchett kept her powerhouse arm up in the second inning helping keep the Lady Wardens scoreless. The Lady Hawks had a massive second inning, scoring the bulk of their runs and making the score 10-0. The Lady Wardens were able to sneak in one run in the top of the third inning, but were met with six runs by Thompson, for another Lady Hawk win.

Olivia Harnett, Fitchett, and Sarah Koskela each scored three for Thompson, Gabi Hannum, and Addie Traver each scoring two, and Mackenzie Robinson, Annailse Fairbank, and Callie McGillis each earning one for the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Hawks took that energy and kept up the momentum, sweeping the Anaconda Copperheads in three innings. Sarah Koskela took to the mound for the Lady Hawks, helping keep the Copperheads scoreless in the first inning. The Lady Hawks were able to get the bulk of their runs in the bottom of the first taking an early 8-0 lead. Koskela took back to the mound, where once again the Lady Hawks would keep Anaconda from scoring. The Copperheads were able to keep the flying Lady Hawks to just one run in the bottom of the second. In the third inning the Copperheads would go scoreless while the Lady Hawks were able to gain six more runs to take the 15-0 win.

Olivia Fitchett led with three runs, Kassidy Dana, Addie Traver, Koskela, and Mackenzie Robinson each earned two, and Annalise Fairbank, Brooklyn Cork, Gabi Hanum, and Olivia Harnett each scored one for the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Hawks host two more home games before the end of the season, Thursday against the Plains Trotters starting at 5pm, and Friday facing the Eureka Lions, also at 5 p.m.

The Plains Trotters were supposed to have three games but the rain canceled two, one on Tuesday against the Troy Trojans. Saturday the Trotters were going to see the Powell County Lady Wardens but the game was canceled due to rain. Plains saw the Anaconda Copperheads falling 19-5.

The Copperheads came out to take the lead in the top of the first inning, after a homer to center field scored three runs, a player struck by a pitch drove in one, and a single scored a run while a steal of home scored the last run. Jaelyn Carr hit a solo inside the park home run for the Trotters in the bottom of the first inning, while Montana Taylor doubled, scoring two runs making the score 3-6. Plains was able to keep the Copperheads scoreless in the second inning while adding a run of their own. Anaconda was able to add one run in the third inning while keeping the Trotters to no runs. The Copperheads were able to score nine runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning, while keeping Plains to no runs. In the fifth and final inning Anaconda was able to sneak in three more runs, while the Trotters were able to gain one more but it wouldn't be enough for the win.

Marissa Young led for the Trotters with two runs, with Carr, Taylor Saner, and Sarah Anderson each scoring one.

The Trotters will see the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks on Thursday, then take to the road facing the Troy Trojans Friday.
