Red Devils fall at home as season winds down

The Noxon-Thompson co-op baseball team had two home games this past week, first taking on the Ronan Chiefs falling 20-6, then seeing the Frenchtown Broncs sinking 12-2.

Ronan was able to get on the board in the top of the second inning after an error allowed two runs. The Red Devils were able to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning after Kade Hill and Lars Gerhard each popped a single to allow RBI’s. Both teams would remain scoreless in the third inning, until the Chiefs were able to score seven runs on three hits to take a 9-3 lead at the top of the fourth inning. Senior Sam Christensen would single a line drive to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning, while Sean Nowlen would strike out swinging, and Christensen would steal second. Logan Buckner singled to shortstop allowing Christensen to sneak in a run, and the Red Devils were able to sneak in two more runs before being struck out swinging. Ronan was only able to sneak in two runs in the fifth inning, while keeping the Red Devils runless. The Chiefs were able to score nine runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning, making their lead even larger. Ronan would end the game by pitching a three person strike out.

Christensen, Hill, Logan Buckner, Tate Bosker, Gerhard and Shane Hatchel each collected one hit for Noxon, while Gerhard and Hatchel each drove in two runs for the Devils.

The Devils would then take on the Frenchtown Broncs. The Broncs opened the game scoring one run in the first inning while keeping the Red Devils to no runs. Frenchtown was able to score six runs on six hits in the top of the second inning, making their lead 7-0. In the final inning the Red Devils would keep the Broncs to only one run. A walk and a single would allow the Red Devils to get on the board, while Shane Hatchel would hit a single allowing another run for Noxon, bringing the score 12-2 for the final.

Christensen, Brayden McJunkin, Hatchel, and Ian Brown each collected one hit for Noxon.

“This season was really about growth, playing games and getting experience and the boys are doing just that. And for that I am happy with how the season is going,” Coach Lucas MacArthur stated after the game.

The Red Devils host one last home game for the season Thursday taking on Mission at 4 p.m.
