Edward Eugene Risbon

6-3-1929 - 4-14-2024

After living a full life, Edward Eugene Risbon passed away on April 14, 2024, at his home in Salmon surrounded by the love of his family.

Edward, known affectionately as Gene, was born on June 3, 1929, in Arapaho, Colorado, to Gilbert and Birdine Risbon. He was raised alongside his four sisters: Margie, Ilene, Addeline and Pat. He grew up in Thompson Falls, Montana, where he would graduate from high school, and began his career at the sawmill before joining the U.S. Army where he served until a surgery led to his honorable discharge.

In the 1960s, Gene relocated to Salmon, a place where he would call home. A lover of flowers, he pursued his passion as a florist, owning and operating his own floral shop. After he closed his business, he would lend his talents to other floral shops in town.

While in Salmon, Gene met the love of his life, Maxine Huff. Together, Maxine and Gene managed the local movie theater, fostering cherished memories for the community. They shared 28 years of marriage until her passing in 2010.

Gene's life was enriched by his two stepdaughters, Phyllis Kruger and her husband Bob Borton of Arizona, and Claire Strom and her husband Roger of Utah.

Gene was known for his passion for dancing, earning him the endearing nickname "Gene Gene the Dancing Machine" from his nieces and nephews. Later in life he resided at the Bitterroot Apartments, where he made lasting friendships and enjoyed spirited games of pinochle with fellow residents.

Gene peacefully passed away from cancer. In accordance with his wishes, no formal service will be held. Gene was cremated and laid to rest beside Maxine, his mother and his father in the Salmon Cemetery. He is survived by his sisters, Margie, Ilene and Pat; his stepdaughters Phyllis and CLaire; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will keep his memory alive.

Though he may be gone, Gene's spirit will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
