Library plans summer reading program

The Thompson Falls Summer Reading Program is up and running thanks to the Friends of the Library fundraising for prizes, and thanks to the Elks Club for their donation of Kindles. Kids who double their goals earn an extra ticket for the mystery box. Readers who triple their goals earn a bonus raffle ticket for regular prizes. In the seven and up age group, the child that reads the most minutes will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. In the age group six and below, whoever reads the most picture books, or has books read to them, will receive a special prize, according to Librarian Crystal Buchanan.

The library will be gathering books for the weekly Trails & Tails activity conducted by Kaniksu Land and Trust with Kayla Mosher this summer. Mosher said the walks will start at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesdays beginning June 18 and continuing through August 13. Two books will be read to children during breaks on the one hour walk. The first two walks will be at Island Park in Thompson Falls. Topics will be butterflies followed by flowers. On July 16, 23, and 30 the walks will be at the Powerhouse in Thompson Falls. Topics will be birds, trees, and water, respectively. On August 6 and 13, walks will be at the Mule Pasture in Thompson Falls. Topics will be forests and wildlife. Interested parties for both summer events can call the library in Thompson Falls, 827-3547, or Kayla Mosher at 406-827-0487, or go to kaniksu.org/montana.
