MDT seeks comments on proposed Hwy 28 project

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to reconstruct about 1 mile of Montana Highway 28, northeast of Plains. The project begins approximately 3 miles north of the intersection with Montana Highway 200 and extends north, ending near the intersection with Blooming Hills Lane.

Proposed work includes increasing the radius of the curve, widening the roadway, flattening roadside slopes, installing new shoulder and centerline rumble strips, and new pavement markings and signage. The purpose of this project is to address an identified crash trend at this location by enhancing roadway safety features.

Construction is tentatively planned beyond MDT's 5-year planning horizon but has the potential to begin earlier depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Right-of-way acquisition or temporary construction permits will likely be required for this project. Relocation of utilities may also be necessary. MDT staff will contact affected landowners prior to survey work. Landowners may be contacted again prior to construction regarding temporary permits.

Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Missoula office, PO Box 7039, Missoula, MT 59807-7039. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10359000.
