TF woman is state pickleball champ

When Heather Thompson picked up pickleball in April of this year, she never thought it would lead to her winning the Montana State Pickleball Singles Championship. Now Thompson has free entry to the national competition in November hosted in Dallas, Texas.

"I really wasn't expecting much going into the competition, there were so many amazing competitors," Thompson said.

Having played competitive tennis since she was eight years old, Thompson picked the sport up rather quickly, saying she started playing to play with just family and friends. But since she had that competitive spirit, she wanted to try her hand at a competition. So she borrowed a racket from family and took on the challenge.

"When I won I just sank to my knees, I really felt God's help," said Thompson.

Thompson said she's looking forward to seeing the professional players in Dallas, as well as family and friends since she is originally from the Dallas area.

"It will be kinda like a homecoming along with getting to see some amazing pickleball players," Thompson stated.

Thompson said she plans to spend the next three months training, and getting into pickleball shape while raising money for the trip expenses. A Go Fund Me page has been set up. To donate, go to https://gofund.me/a36614b3
