Independently owned since 1905
The Thompson Falls school board met on Monday. The 2023-24 Trustees Financial Summary report and the 2024-25 final budget were approved. Superintendent Bud Scully reported that the new tiles on the floor of the multi-purpose building are bad and need to be replaced. “The shop side of the building’s floor is done. About 1,000 square feet of tiles were replaced. New tiles are being shipped. The install company, Great Floors, has been great to work with as well,” Scully said. Scully reports that he has been discussing a land swap with Mayor Leivestad for more room on the baseball, softball and soccer fields.
The board approved the consent agenda in full. Included are new hires of one paraprofessional, Erica Franck, and supervising teacher Jase Miller. Coaches approved for hire include soccer, volleyball and football, volunteers and salaried positions. Soccer coaches are Joshua Allday, high school boy’s assistant, Michael Scharfe, high school boy’s head coach, and Cody Hafner, volunteer for boys. Junior high volleyball volunteer is Chrisi Robinson. Football coaches are Craig LeCoure, Jay Deal and Jake Helvey. Cross Country volunteer coach is Jeneese Baxter. Eighth grade participation in high school girls and boys soccer has been approved. St Regis has been added to the Thompson Falls-Plains girls soccer co-op. The board accepted the resignations of three teachers including Tara Hertel, Holland Frank, and Scott Pardee. Out of district students in elementary, junior high and high school are approved. Bud Scully was appointed as the representative to the Cabinet Mountain Co-op Board. The bus routes and handbook also were approved.
Scully commented that though the mill levy has decreased, the property assessment evaluation has increased. As a reminder, all soccer practices will be held in Thompson Falls and Thompson Falls school provides transportation only to games and not practices. Scully added that the schools have paraprofessional positions available. The next school board meeting will be on Monday, September 9 at 6 p.m. in the district board room.
