Henry's tree tumbles on course

A familiar sight at River's Bend Golf Course came crashing down Monday during Over the Hill play.

About 11 a.m., Ray Marshall said he was 50 yards from the green on No. 3 when the stump of an old tree came crashing down. "It made a loud noise when it hit the ground and shattered into many pieces," Marshall said Monday. No one was harmed when the tree fell.

A top portion of the tree, which was dedicated to the late Henry Hammill, fell in 2009 during a windstorm.

Bruce Craw didn't let the fallen tree deter him from earning the men's low gross score with a 42, while Bary Moore found himself getting the low men's net score of 29. Lana Nolen proved herself earning the low net women's score with 39. Rich Hooten had closest to pin on No. 10, along with Bruce Craw on No. 14. John Mosher carded closest to the pin on No. 17. Jen Jantzen earned the long putt on No. 11, with Mike Normandin taking that honor on holes 12 and 13. Wally Gibe showed his arm getting the long drive on No.15. Doug Deck had the long putt on No. 15, while Roger Webster had the long putt on No. 16. Bruce Craw had the long putt on holes No. 17 and 18. Wally Gibe had the men's longest drive with Liz Morkert earning the women's long drive on No. 18. Rusty Haggard had a chip-in on No. 14, Gary Thompson on No. 12, Patrick Walt on No. 14 and Dave Garr rounded out the chip-ins on hole No. 18. Patrick Walt had the only birdie on No. 14.
