THOMPSON 0, LONE PEAK 10
Previs field had a different look to it Saturday as the newly formed Plains-Thompson Falls Blue Hawk girls soccer team hosted their first game of the season, taking on the Lone Peak Big Horns and falling 10-0.
Both teams started out putting pressure on each other, but the Big Horns were quick to show their competitiveness and were able to sneak a shot past the keeper to score their first goal.
The Blue Hawks held their own and were able to get the ball down the field. Solveig Nygaard found herself going for a goal but was blocked by the Lone Peak keeper. The Big Horns were able to get the ball back down the field and into the net scoring their second goal. Lone Peak was able to quickly get another goal past Blue Hawk keeper Callie McGillis. While the Blue Hawks kept their intense defense it wouldn't be enough to keep Lone Peak from the net, allowing for their four goals in the first half. With only 13 minutes left Lone Peak was able to gain their fifth goal. Kylee Huff held her own and tried for a Blue Hawk goal but was blocked by the Big Horn keeper. Thompson would keep up their persistent defense and was able to block several shots from Lone Peak, but with only minutes left the Big Horns were able to sneak a shot past McGillis.
It would be over 10 minutes into the second half before the Blue Hawks tried for a goal and were again met with the Lone Peak keeper. The Big Horns would score two more goals before the Blue Hawks were able to try to get a goal. With only 12 minutes left Lone Peak was able to break down the Blue Hawk defense to score another goal. Thompson kept their defenses high but it wouldn't be enough to stop the Big Horns from scoring their final goal before the quarter ended, taking the win.
"I am proud of these girls, we knew this season was about regrowth and rebuilding. They kept their heads high even after this loss. We are looking forward to growing as a team this season," said head coach Nick Lawyer.

The Blue Hawk boys then had their chance at last year's semi-finalist, the Lone Peak Big Horns, ending in a draw 1-1.
It would be over 10 minutes of tough defense before the Hawks tried to get a goal but were blocked by the Lone Peak keeper.
"The boys came out fighting this game, they grinded the whole game," coach Michael Scharfe said.
The Lone Peak defense tried to keep the fighting Hawks from gaining field but were unable to and the Hawks tried for a goal but were once again blocked by the Big Horn keeper. It would be Lone Peak who would try for the next goal, only to be met with Blue Hawk keeper Landin Baird, who was able to keep the ball away from the net. The Hawks would gain their first goal by a penalty shot. William Grenda was able to sink the shot for the Hawks. The crowd would cheer on the Hawks as they continued their aggressive defense, as Baird was able to block several shots from the Big Horns. With six minutes left, Lone Peak was finally able to sneak past the intense Hawk defense and Baird to gain their first and only goal. Another penalty this time against the Blue Hawks let Lone Peak try to take the lead, but they were unable to find the net.
"Landin did a great job in the goal, had great saves, great defense, getting the ball moved and up," stated Scharfe.
The Thompson Falls-Plains soccer teams were set to host the Polson Pirates on Tuesday. Results will be available in next week's Ledger.
