Hawks, Horsemen win

THOMPSON FALLS 48, CONRAD 45

The Thompson Falls Blue Hawks hit the road for their first game taking on the Conrad Cowboys, securing the 48-45 victory.

The Cowboys opened the game with the first touchdown, but were quickly answered with a massive 60-yard touchdown by Hawk senior Braedon Ferris.

Conrad tried to break past the Hawk defense but was unable to before Kaiden Robins was able to score a touchdown, giving Thompson Falls a five-point lead.

The Cowboys dominated the second quarter with four touchdowns to just one from the Hawks and Conrad was up 31-18 at halftime. Thompson kicked their game into high gear coming back from the locker room and was able to score the first touchdown in the third quarter. The Cowboys found their way past the tight-knit defense of the Hawks for a massive touchdown, furthering their lead until Robins was able to find senior Bryson LeCoure for a swift 5-yard pass touchdown.

The Hawks kept up the momentum, with LeCoure finding himself back in the goal after a massive 59-yard scoring run to take back the lead. The Cowboys would gain points with a huge 50-yard pass touchdown in the fourth quarter. But it was no match for Robins, who would make the final touchdown for the Hawks and the win in their first game of the season.

Sam Burgess led the Hawks in tackles with five, Ian Myers behind with four, and Robins, Ferris, Mason Park, and Bryson McCormick each had two. Myers had 25 yards receiving for the Hawks, while LeCoure had five. LeCoure led in rushing with 141 yards, with Robins behind at 116.

PLAINS 51, VICTOR 8

The Plains Horsemen hit the road taking on the Victor Pirates taking the win 51-8.

In the first quarter the Horsemen were quick to find the end zone for their first touchdown, putting their helmets down they were able to keep Victor from gaining a first down. Horsemen Cody West was able to sneak in a quick 6 yard touchdown to keep their lead going into the second quarter.

During the second quarter the Pirates tried to keep their defense strong but was quickly overtaken by the Plains offense for another touchdown. The Horsemen were able to score three more touchdown passes before the half.

The Horsemen kept their momentum and strong defense coming into the third quarter and were able to score the first touchdown. The Pirates came back fighting and would keep the Horsemen to one touchdown.

Headed into the final quarter Victor was able to slip past the Plains defense for their first and only touchdown. The Horsemen would find Jacob Lulack for their final touchdown and time ran out before an extra point could be attempted.

DGSG 22, HOT SPRINGS 16

Football season has started with the Hot Springs Savage Heat hosting their first game of the season against Denton-Geyster-Standford-Geraldine Bearcats (DGSG), falling 22-16.

The Savage Heat came out on fire, putting pressure on the Bearcats, and were able to capitalize on a fumble, gaining a massive 40 yards and setting up senior Johnny Waterbury for a Hot Springs touchdown. The Bearcats tried to answer back but were met with the Savage Heat defensive line headed by Daniel Slonaker.

With 17 seconds left in the first quarter, the Savage Heat were able to score another touchdown. DGSG would be able to fight through the aggressive defense to score their first touchdown, and Hot Springs was unable to break down the tight-knit Bearcat defense for the rest of the half.

Coming back from halftime, both teams upped their intensity, making each other fight for each yard they gained. Nick McAllister tried to find Waterbury for another Hot Springs touchdown but was met with a herd of Bearcats. At the end of the third, the Savage Heat held their 16-6 lead.

Three minutes into the final quarter, the Bearcats were able to find themselves in the field for a touchdown. Gaining the extra point, they were just two points behind. The Savage Heat fought to find the goal but were unable and were met with another DGSG touchdown. The Bearcats took the lead with only 26 seconds left in the quarter and sealed the win at Hot Springs.

PDS 49, NOXON 26

The Noxon Red Devils took to the road taking on the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans falling 49-26.

The Titans came out fighting and broke through the Noxon defense early to score their first touchdown. The Red Devils would put their helmets to the ground trying to score but were unable to. PDS found themselves back in the end zone for another touchdown before the Red Devils were able to find their own endzone for a touchdown.

"It took us some time to find our groove at the start of the game." said coach Lucas MacArthur.

Early in the second quarter the Titans were able to once again break past the tight-knit Devil defense to score another touchdown. The teams would fight helmet to helmet to gain yards before the half but either team was unable to gain more points.

Coming back from the half, the Devils found new fire and were quick to gain another massive touchdown when Justice Kayser found senior Ricky Williams. PDS was quick to answer with a touchdown of their own, making their lead larger.

In the fourth quarter the Devils never faltered and were able to find Williams for one more touchdown. But it wouldn't be enough to take the win.

"Power is a good team, but we were able to hold our own, that just shows we only have up from here." MacArthur said.

The Red Devils will host their first home game against Valier on Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
