JOLIET 23, THOMPSON FALLS 14
The Blue Hawk football team hit the road taking on the Joliet JHawks sinking 23-14.
The JHawks were able to break past Thompsons defense to score the first touchdown, while the Blue Hawks tried but were unable to answer with their own touchdown. This would be the only score in the first quarter.
Headed into the second quarter Thompson was able to gain a swift two yard run to tie up the game early. The Hawks defense was able to keep Joliet from finding the end zone for much of the second quarter. But with minutes left the JHawks found themselves getting a quick 10 yard run to take the lead.
Coming back from the half Joliet was able to get the Hawk offense into the JHawk endzone for a quick Safety scoring two points. Thompson was able to score a massive 19 yard run to bring the score within two points going into the final quarter.
The Hawks would keep their strong defenses up in the fourth quarter, making Joliet work for every yard they gained. Until the JHawks were able to sneak in one last three yard run to take the lead and the win.
Bryson LcCoure led the Hawks in passing with 20 yards, and 104 yards rushing. Sam Burgess behind with 55 yards, and Kaiden Robins with 29. Robins led for Thompson in receiving with 24 yards. LeCoure was a force getting the top spot in tackles with seven, Robins and Noa Stevens each had four.
The Hawks hit the road again taking on the Manhattan Tigers Friday with kickoff at 7pm.
CENTERVILLE 43, HOT SPRINGS 40
The Hot Springs Savage Heat took to the road taking on the Centerville Miners falling in a close battle 43-40.
The Miners came out and were able to get past the Savage Heat defense to score the first points. Hot Springs was able to keep this the only Centerville touchdown.
Headed into the second quarter Nick McAllister was able to find Daniel Slonaker for a Savage Heat touchdown. Centerville was able to answer with their own massive 36 yard pass touchdown to keep their lead. McAllister would be able to find Weston Slonaker for a 30 yard pass touchdown for Hot Springs. The Miners wouldn’t be able to turn off the heat and once again McAllister would find Weston Slonaker for a swift Savage Heat touchdown before the half.
Coming back from halftime Centerville would break past the Hot Spring defense to put the first points on the board. Savage Heat Weston Slonker found himself running a massive 32 yard touchdown to keep Hot Springs in the lead. While Hot Springs kept the Miners working, Centerville was able to find the end zone once more. Hot Springs was able to answer with another touchdown keeping their lead.
The final quarter proved to be the toughest with both teams putting the last of their intensity into it. Fighting yard for yard until Centerville was able to find the end zone for a touchdown, and a field goal. Hot Springs fought to answer with their own touchdown but were unable before the Miners could run in a swift 5 yard run taking the lead and the win.
“It was a really close game and the boys played really well and they played hard until the end.” said coach Jim Lawson.
Nick McAllister led the Savage Heat with 12 tackles, with David Chapman behind with eight, and the Slonaker brothers each getting six.
