The Noxon Red Devils hit the road to see the Lincoln Lynx taking the on road win 55-53.
Quickly the Lynx were able to break past the Devil defense to put the first points on the board. Noxon was swift and held their own and were able to answer with their own touchdown. The teams would fight yard for yard until less than a minute left in the first quarter, when the Devils were able to gain another touchdown taking the lead.
Going into the second quarter the quick footed Devils were able to find their way to the end zone for a touchdown. The teams would go back and forth, holding each other from gaining more points, until Lincoln was able to find the end zone for a touchdown. With only seconds left before the half, the Devils were able to gain one more touchdown.
After the half the Devils came back even hotter and were able to gain the first touchdown, but the Lynx were quick to answer with their own touchdown. Lincoln would put Noxon to work and would gain another touchdown before the Devils could, bringing the score within just a point. The Devils would have none of that and were able to gain another touchdown, putting more points between them.
During the fourth quarter the Devils would come out with more intensity, gaining the first touchdown. Lincoln put their helmets to the ground and made Noxon work extra hard to keep the Lynx from gaining yards. The Devils were able to find Ricky Williams for a massive touchdown, keeping their lead. Lincoln tried to make a comeback, answering with their own touchdown. With only two seconds and one Lincoln play left, Noxon’s own Zach Storaasli was able to gain the tackle, keeping the Devils in the lead for the win.
“I am proud that the guys never quit, even after Lincoln tried to make a comeback at the end. They didn’t quit and they fought hard,” said coach Lucas MacAurthur
Williams and Chance McDaid led the Devils with three touchdowns each and Ian Brown earned one for Noxon.
Noxon hosts White Sulphur Springs on Friday.
HOT SPRINGS 45,
BIG SANDY 0
The Savage Heat had a massive on the road win over the Big Sandy Pioneers 45-0.
During the first quarter the teams would fight for each yard going helmet to helmet for most of the quarter. With only 15 seconds left the Savage Heat were able to find the end zone for their first touchdown. Not having enough time, the Pioneers were unable to answer back with their own touchdown.
The second quarter started with both teams fighting until Hot Springs was able to gain their second touchdown. Big Sandy was unable to get past the tight-knit Savage Heat defense for their own touchdown. With 45 seconds left before the half, Hot Springs was able to gain a massive touchdown to make their lead even bigger.
Coming back from the half the heat never turned off for Hot Springs and they were able to once again gain a touchdown, keeping their lead. While the Pioneers tried, they wouldn’t be able to beat David Chapman and the Savage Heat defense. Big Sandy kept their intensity and were able to keep this as the only Hot Springs touchdown of the quarter.
Going into the final quarter with the score 38-0, Hot Springs put their helmets to the ground and kept their pressure on the Pioneers. The teams would each go back and forth fighting for yards until, with only a minute left,the Savage Heat were able to find the end zone for a final Hot Springs touchdown, taking the win.
The Savage Heat welcome the West Yellowstone Wolverines on Friday with kickoff starting at 7 p.m..
MANHATTAN 38, THOMPSON FALLS 16
The Thompson Falls Blue Hawks took to the road, taking on the Manhattan Tigers and falling 38-16.
The Tigers were quick to break down the Hawk defense to put their first points on the board. The Hawks would try to answer with their own touchdown but were shut down by Manhattan. Thompson would let this be the only Tiger touchdown in the first quarter.
Headed into the second quarter the Hawks were able to find Bryson LeCoure for a swift 13 yard touchdown tying up the game. Manhattan was able to get past the defense to gain another touchdown, once again taking the lead before the half.
Coming back from the half the Hawks had a new fire and made the Tigers work for every yard gained, and once again Manhattan found themselves back in the end zone to make their lead larger. Thompson pushed the Tigers back to their endzone, allowing Braedon Ferris to score a two point safety. Manhattan wouldn’t be able to find their end zone again before Hawk Ian Myers found the end zone for a Hawk touchdown bringing the score 20-16.
In the final quarter the Tigers would dominate, keeping Thompson from gaining more points. Manhattan would find the end zone for three massive touchdowns to take the win for their own.
Sam Burgess led the Hawks in tackles with six, with Myers and Bryson McCormick and Noa Stevens each earning three. Myers led Thompson with 32 yards receiving, with Burgess behind with 17. LeCoure had 123 yards rushing with Kadien Robins behind with 70. Robins also had 32 yards for passing.
The Hawks host their first home game taking on Jefferson Panthers on Friday.
