THOMPSON FALLS 1, LIBBY 1
The Thompson Falls/Plains Blue Hawks hit the road taking on the Libby Loggers ending in a draw 1-1.
At the start of the game both teams came with fire, making each other work to get towards the goal. The Hawks would put their tough defense to play, keeper Landin Baird was able to stop the first Logger goal. From there the Hawks would try to gain their first goal only to be blocked by the Libby keeper. The teams would go back to fighting yard for yard until the Loggers were able to get their first goal past Baird. This would be the only goal for both teams before the half.
Coming back from the half the Hawks had new fire, cleats to the ground they pushed past the Logger defense to try to get a goal but was blocked once again. While Libby tried to answer back they were unable to get past Baird again. Jacob Howell found teammate Andrew Wrobleski for the Hawks first goal. Tying up the game before the end of the game.
THOMPSON FALLS 3, LIBBY 3
The girls then had their chance at the Libby Lady Loggers also ending in a draw 3-3.
The Hawks came out defensively on fire for the first half, despite the Lady Loggers earning a goal early on. Thompson never faltered and pushed their defense further keeping Libby out of the goal line for much of the first half. The Hawks would try for their own goal but were unable to make it past the Libby keeper. The Loggers second point would come from a penalty kick, despite keeper Callie McGillis' effort to stop the ball. This would put the Lady Loggers up by two before the half. With only minutes to go before the half Libby was able to sneak one more goal past the Hawks.
Coming back from the half, the Hawks kept up their defense but fought harder to gain yards for a goal. Their hard work paid off when Solveig Nygaard was able to find powerhouse Katherine Wrobleski for Thompsons first goal. The Lady Loggers would not be able to answer with any more goals, as the Hawks made this half their own. Emmi Tucker was able to find Nygaard this time for the second Hawk goal of the game. With the score now 2-3 and less than 20 minutes of game time the Hawks knew it was now or never to either tie up the game or win. McGillis was able to find Wrobleski for the Hawks last shot, who was able to kick the ball deep in the back corner of the net, tying up the game. While Libby tried to get another goal they were no match for keeper Ava Lawyer who blocked the last shots from the Lady Loggers to keep the draw.
"Katherine Wrobleski continues to be our top scoring threat and she is currently tied for 8th in the scoring charts for all of Class A soccer in Montana with five total goals on the season. Meaning she is TOP TEN attacking threats in all of Montana Class A soccer. And she's only an eighth grader!" said head coach Nick Lawyer.
COLUMBIA FALLS 7, THOMPSON FALLS 0
The Hawks then hosted the Columbia Falls Wildcats falling 0-7.
Thompson came out with intensity, but was unable to stop the Wildcats from gaining a goal swiftly within the first few minutes. The Hawks would try to answer back but would be blocked by the Wildcat keeper. The teams would fight back and forth before Columbia Falls was able to gain another goal past the keeper. The Hawks would keep the Wildcats to only two goals before the half.
After the half the Hawks came back with more fire, but within minutes the Wildcats were able to get past keeper Landin Baird to gain another goal. Thompson would try to break past the Columbia Falls defense but were unable to gain any points of their own. Once again the Wildcats found their way to the Hawks goal for another shot, making the score 0-4. The Hawks never wavered and were able to get close shots but weren't able to find the goal. With 20 minutes left the Wildcats would score their fifth goal. The Wildcats would gain two more goals, keeping the Hawks scoreless and taking the win.
COLUMBIA FALLS 7, THOMPSON FALLS 0
The Blue Hawk women then had their turn at the Lady Wildcats sinking 0-7.
The Hawks came out fighting, putting their cleats to the ground and making Columbia Falls work for their yards gain. The teams would go back and forth for the first 10 minutes of the game until the Wildcats were able to find the goal for their first point. Thompson would be quick to try to answer back but was unable to get the ball past the keeper. The Hawks would hold the Wildcats to one goal for much of the first half but with 14 minutes left Columbia Falls was once again able to find the goal, and they would quickly find it again before the Hawks had a chance to move the ball up field. Going into the half the Wildcats were up 0-3.
The Hawks came out still ready to try to win after the half, and would push the Wildcats harder, but within minutes Columbia Falls had gained another point. Thompson pushed back and tried to get the ball down field but the shot was blocked by the keeper. The Hawks would keep Columbia Falls to four goals for much of the second half, until two back to back shots brought the score to 0-6. Thompson never lost their momentum and tried for their own goal but was met with the Wildcat keeper. With only minutes to go Columbia Falls would get past the Hawk keeper once more to score their final goal.
The Hawks host Bigfork on Tuesday with results in next week's Ledger, they then go on to host Whitefish on Saturday. Boys kick off at 10 a.m.
