Plains cleans up for fall

Beautification traditions are spreading across the county. Plains has planned to do two a year. Last Saturday was a chilly morning as members of the board and volunteers came out to participate. This marked the fourth clean-up day in Plains. "We started in 2023 and do two clean-ups a year," Anita Marsh said. The six member committee consists of Emily Baker, Lana Dicken, Mary Heliwell, Scott Johnson, Tim Kinsinger, and Deb Warren.

"We did a big cleaning in the Spring that took us until late afternoon to finish," Dicken said. They had several volunteers trickle in late to help out, she commented. This time the group had eleven properties signed up to be cleaned and fifteen volunteers. "Gambles donated work gloves and contractor trash bags," Marsh said.

Volunteers ranging from teens to seniors participated in mowing, trimming, digging up rocks and chopping branches in an effort to make the community neat and tidy going into winter. "When my dad was the mayor, I was "voluntold" to be on the committee," Dicken jokes, referring to her father Chris Allen.

"There was a lot to clean up last spring, like tires and such," volunteer Bill Beck said.

"We just want to help out the community and keep our town beautiful," was the general consensus from committee members Johnson, Marsh and Dicken, last Saturday.
