TF-Plains faces off against Columbia Falls

COLUMBIA FALLS 9, THOMPSON FALLS 2

The Thompson Falls/Plains/St Regis Lady Hawk soccer team hit the road taking on the Columbia Falls Wildcats, falling 9-2.

The Hawks came out fighting in the first half and were quick to gain the first goal, the Wildcats wouldn’t be able to get past the Thompson defense for their own goal. The teams would fight up and down the field for much of the first half until Katherine Wrobleski was assisted by Elizabeth Weedeman for a Hawk goal putting them up two to zero. Columbia Falls was able to break past the Hawk defense and put their own goal on the board before the second half.

Coming back from the half the Wildcats were wild and would gain the first goal, keeping the Hawks down field. Columbia Falls would once again break past the Hawk defense and gain another goal not letting Thompson answer with their own goal. The Wildcats would gain another goal putting them in the lead, while the Hawks upped their defense Columbia Falls would quickly get past the Hawk keeper to put another point on the board. The teams would fight yard for yard until once again the wildcats would get back into Hawk territory for a goal. While the Hawks tried to tame the Wildcats they were unable and Columbia Falls would break past Thompsons keeper three more times to take the win.

Hawk keeper Callie McGillis had six saves, and the Hawk defense had 10 blocks.

The Thompson Falls/Plains Blue Hawks then had their chance at the Columbia Falls Wildcats sinking 9-1.

The Wildcats came out on fire and were able to gain the first goal over the Hawks, before the Hawks had time to answer with their own goal Columbia falls found the goal once again putting them up two to zero. The Hawks had their chance when a penalty kick came and Hawk Andrew Wrobleski was able to find the goal putting Thompson down by just one point before the second half.

“One of our goals for this game was to score on Columbia Falls since we weren’t able to score on them the last time and that came to fruition,” said head coach Michael Scharfe

Coming back from the half the Wildcats were swift and were able to gain another goal. The Hawk defense would try to keep Columbia Falls out of the goal line but were unable to before another Wildcat goal. While Thompson upped their defense and made the Wildcats work extra hard. Columbia Falls was able to find the back of the goal once more, putting them up 5-1. Thompson never faltered and kept the pressure on the Wildcats until Columbia Falls found the goal again. Before the end of the quarter the Wildcats would break past the tight knit Hawk defense three more times to take the win.

“I am proud of these boys, they played hard the whole game and never gave up. Columbia Falls has a strong team and the score itself doesn’t tell the whole story of how good our boys played against probably the top Class A team in the state, “ stated Scharfe

The Hawks host the Libby Loggers on Saturday October 5 starting at 5 p.m.
