Lady Hawks win rematch with Plains

The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks hosted country rivals the Plains Trotters, taking the win in three exciting sets.

The evenly matched teams came out on fire going point for point, until the crowd saw the Hawks take a five point lead over Plains. From there Thompson was able to keep their lead, hammering down spikes and serving up aces until the score was 21-11. The Trotters were able to gain a few points but it wouldn't be enough to take the set win.

Shaking off the first set loss, Plains came back looking for redemption, and the teams would go volley for volley tying up the game at eight points. Before once again the level headed Hawks were able to take the lead, Plains would only be able to gain two points. With the score 20-10, Gabi Hannum was able to serve down several aces, keeping the Hawks in the lead. Thompson held the Trotters while gaining the last few points needed for the second set win.

The Hawks would continue to take the lead in the third set, making the Trotters work and think for their points. Plains was able to capitalize off a few Hawk mistakes to bring the scoring within four points. From there the Hawks found their groove again and would make the point gap larger. Keeping their serving game strong, Thompson would hold a massive 10 point lead over Plains. Only letting the Trotters gain four points the Hawks were able to take the match win.

"Thompson played very well, they played a strong in system game on their side of the court. Unfortunately, our serving and passing game struggled. We will take the loss as an opportunity to come together, learn from it, and hit the grind to play our game," said head Plains coach Kim Lakko.

Claire Lakko led the Trotters with 20 set assists, setting up Aubree Butcher with seven spikes. Lexie Deming had six spikes, while teammate Taylor Saner had three. Butcher led with three blocks, with Teagan Saner behind with Lakko each earning two. Taylor Saner held the lead for Plains with seven digs, Kalli Tuma behind with five.

"Plains has a good program and Kim is a great coach, it was a fun match. The girls are growing every week and just having fun." Said Thompson Falls head coach Sandra Kazmierczak.

Oliviva Fitchett led for the Hawks with 38 set assists, setting up Addi Pardee with 12 spikes. Out of the teams 14 digs, Pardee led with five with Sarah Koskela and Gabi Hannum behind with three each. Addy Deal earned four blocks for the Hawks, and Hannum and Pardee had two aces each.

Thompson Falls hits the road taking on the Troy Lady Trojans on Thursday and will then host their last home game of the regular season against the Eureka Lady Lions starting at 2:30 p.m.

Plains will host the Troy Lady Trojans on Tuesday for their last home game of the regular season, results will be in next week's Ledger. Then hit the road one last time on Thursday to see the Eureka Lady Lions.

HOT SPRINGS 3,

ST. REGIS 1

The Lady Savage Heat of Hot Springs hosted the Lady Tigers of St. Regis took the win in four epic sets.

Hot Springs started out in the lead over the Tigers early in the first set. Holding onto the lead for much of the set, the Heat were able to keep St. Regis to just 12 points while taking the first set win.

Headed into set number two, the Tigers were able to find their groove and would come out to gain the first points. Hot Springs was quickly on their tail and would bring the score to a tie before taking back the serving lead. The teams would keep the points close within four, before the Heat were able to take back their large lead. With the score 21-12, St. Regis would only gain five more points before the Heat swooped in and took the second set win.

The Tigers found their groove in the third set and quickly came out to have a five point lead over the Heat. While the Heat tired to bring the points back they were unable and the Tigers fought hard to hold onto their lead. With Hot Springs down six points the team banded together and was able to gain four points, but it wouldn't be enough to take the set win.

Determined to come back, Hot Springs came out in the fourth set and gained the first points. They would then hold a six point lead over the Tigers early in the set. Keeping their lead Kara Christensen was able to hammer down several aces to make their lead larger. Holding a massive 10 point lead over the Tigers, the Heat were powerhouses at the net, keeping St. Regis to just 12 points while taking the match win.

Brooke Jackson led the Heat with 18 set assists, setting up Christensen with 15 spikes. Lanet Jakabosky was behind with five, and senior Georgia Uski had four. Jackson dug up 16 digs for Hot Springs, with teammate Calllie Cano behind with five. Christensen and Cano led with three blocks each, while Jackson had three.

GRANITE 3,

HOT SPRINGS 0

The Savage Heat then hit the road for the final time, seeing the Granite Lady Prospectors falling in three sets.

Granite came out hot and would take the lead in the first set, the Heat were able to gain points back to keep the score within three. Hot Springs was able to tie the game at 13, but from there the Prospectors were able to take back the lead. The teams would go volley for volley, but Granite would keep their large lead. With the score 16-20, the Prospectors only allowed the Heat to gain three more points before taking the set win.

While Hot Springs tried to come out to gain the first points they were unable, but they would keep the score close together before tying it up at five points. From there the Prospectors were able to take a massive six point lead. Keeping a level head and good teamwork, the Heat were able to bring the points within three, but Granite would get the serve and would make several aces to take back their massive lead over Hot Springs. The score quickly became 8-20, and the Prospectors would only allow the Heat to gain four more points before holding them and taking the second set win.

Coming back for the third set, the teams would go point for point until Granite was able to take the lead, keeping the points close. The teams would set up impressive spikes and dig up each other's spikes for most of the game. Keeping the points close until the Prospectors were able to pull ahead to take the match win.

CHARLO 3, NOXON 0

The Noxon Lady Red Devils hosted the Charlo Lady Vikings for their last home game of the season falling in three sets.

The teams would start out going point for point until the Vikings were able to keep the serve and take the lead. They would hold their lead for much of the set, but the Devils kept their groove and found their teamwork to bring the scores closer together. When the Vikings got the serve back they were able to hold Noxon to just 17 points while taking the set win.

Charlo came out in the second set and took a large six point lead over the Devils. With the help of their heavy hitting middle the Vikings would keep their massive lead for much of the set. Noxon tried to lessen the point gap but were unable and would be kept to just 10 points.

In the final set, Charlo came out and took the lead once more, putting five points between the teams early. Noxon was able to find their groove and bring the points back within two before the Vikings set sail and took back their large lead. Once again holding the Devils to just 10 points Charlo was able to take the third set.

Seanna Richter led for the Devils with 13 digs, six spikes, and four assists. Abby Yoder dug up eight digs, while teammate Jasmin Risch had five set assists and three spikes.

SEELEY SWAN 3, NOXON 0

Then the Devils hit the road taking on the Seeley Swan Blackhawks sinking in three sets.

The teams started going point for point until Seeley was able to take the lead. The Devils kept a level head and would bring the points close together, tying the game at 15 before the Blackhawks would gain the serve and take back the lead. From there Noxon would hold Seeley to 23 points while gaining their own, but it wouldn't be enough to take the first set.

In the second set, the Blackhawks were quick to take the lead, but Noxon was quick to work together to lessen the point gap. But once Seeley gained the serve they continued to serve up aces to make their lead larger. Noxon tried to lessen the point gap but were unable and with the score 10-22 the Blackhawks would only allow the Devils to gain two more points before taking the second win.

Noxon would come out and take the lead over the Blackhawks in the third set, keeping Seeley close on their tails. The game would tie up at 13 points before the Blackhawks were able to take back their lead from Noxon. It wouldn't last long as the heavy hitting Devils kept a level head and would tie up the game, then they would keep the points within two. The game would tie up at 21 points again before Seeley would take back the serving and would gain the last four points needed for the match win.

Jasmin Risch led for Noxon with seven set assists, and three aces. Seanna Richter and Sandy Bonney each earned eight digs, while Richter with teammate Emma Swanson led with four spikes each.
