Running to victory

The Thompson Falls and Plains cross country teams saw the B/C Divisional meet hosted in Thompson Falls at the River's Bend golf course. The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks took first place as a team, while the Blue Hawks took fifth place. The Plains Horsemen took first place as a team, while the Trotters took second place.

Last time Marina Tulloch hit the River's Bend golf course she set a new record; this time she beat herself by almost seven seconds with her time of 18 minutes and 36 seconds, earning her first place. Staying close with the four wheeler the whole time, the sophomore said "I think in a cycle. I think about my feet and then my arms, then my shoulders, then my posture. I will just keep doing that for the whole race."

Looking ahead to state, the Plains sophomore said she wants to finish in 18:50 at state, then go to regionals and hopes for nationals. Savannah Costner was the next Trotter to cross the finish line earning a time of 22:26, with Tia Bellinger behind with 22:48. Ireland Corbin (23:17) and Annika Ercanbrack (23:18) crossed a second apart.

For the Horsemen John Owen Jermyn led with his time of 16:41 taking third place, while Simeon Costner had a grand time of 17:41. Cord Greer crossed the finish line in 18:09, while teammate Kalem Ercanbrack had a time of 18:32, and Mike Reistroffer was close behind with his time of 18:53. Jack Cockrell (19:10) and Brock Ryan (20:23) rounded it out for the varsity Horsemen. Asher Seymour (21:22) and Remington Ryan (22:09) ran JV for Plains.

The Lady Hawks were led by Audrey Fairbank who crossed the finish line in 21:26, earning sixth place. Aubrey Baxter was close behind with her time of 21:49, with freshman Lexi Franck behind with 21:58. Evalyn Edwards had a great time of 22:35 for the Hawks, while Peighton Kenney had a time of 23:40. Madeline Zyromski ran JV for the Hawks earning a time of 25:42.

Weston Block was first for the Blue Hawk boys with his time of 18:41, Nathan Baxter behind with 19:39. Tuff Ryder had a time of 19:54. Blake Shusterman (20:08) and Luke Pastorius (20:59) crossed the finish line close together. Jakob Molina rounded it out for the Hawks with his time of 23:39.

The runners will take on the state meet this Saturday at the University of Montana golf course in Missoula.
