CLASS B'S BEST

Trotter Tulloch wins state cross country meet

She believed she could, so she did.

After winning the divisional meet in Thompson Falls October 19, Plains sophomore Marina Tulloch told The Ledger she wanted to get a time of 18 minutes, 50 seconds at the state meet. She did that and more last Saturday as she won the Class B women's race, crossing the finish line at the University of Montana golf course in 18:33. Not only did Tulloch smash her own goal, but she was nearly a full minute ahead of the second-place finisher.

The Plains girls finished fifth as a team at state, with a solid 237 points. Savannah Costner crossed the finish line in 21:48 and Ireland Corbin in 22:47. Tia Bellinger had a time of 23:01, with teammate Annika Ercanbrack seconds behind with her time of 23:15.

The Horsemen took third place as a team at the state meet with 171 points. John Owen Jermyn placed 10th place with his time of 16:46. Simeon Costner was behind with a time of 17:30, and Cord Greer was close behind with his time of 17:49. Mike Reistroffer had a grand time of 18:24, with Kalem Ercanbrack close behind with his stunning time of 18:48. Jack Cockrell (18:50) and Brock Ryan (20:03) rounded it out for the Horsemen.

The Thompson Falls cross country teams also had an outstanding state meet. "I am beyond pleased with my team. I had a goal for the boys to be in the Top 20, and the girls Top 10 and both did that," said Blue Hawk Coach Sarah Naegeli.

The Hawk girls finished in eighth place with 246 points, and the boys came in 18th with 510 points. "Almost everyone had a personal best and if they didn't, they were real close. It was a great ending to the season and we are ready to gear up for next year," Naegeli added.

Eighth grader Audrey Fairbank crossed the finish line first for the Blue Hawks in 21:02. Aubrey Baxter came close behind with her time of 21:28, and Lexi Franck had a great state meet earning a time of 22:02. Evalyn Edwards 23:00 and Peighton Kenney 23:38 helped propel the Hawks to their Top 10 finish.

Weston Block was the first Blue Hawk to cross the finish line with his time of 18:21. Nathan Baxter had a great time of 19:22, with Tuff Ryder behind with a time of 19:45. Blake Shusterman crossed with a splendid time of 20:11, teammate Luke Pastorius behind with 20:45 and senior Jakob Molina finished his career as a Hawk runner with a time of 22:03.
