The Savage Heat boys split games last week, losing a close game in Superior 51-43 on Thursday and then getting a 62-52 win in Philipsburg on Saturday.
In Superior, Hot Springs led for much of the first half, but the Bobcats came out with intensity in the second half to take the win. Chase DePoe led the scoring for the Savage Heat with 16 points, while Weston Slonaker and Nick McAllister added seven apiece, Ben Aldridge six, Wesley Adams four and Calvin Timmer three.
“We had a really good first half against Superior. We ran a really good transition game,” Coach Mike Benson said. He added that freshman DePoe is cold-blooded when he gets rolling with his shooting and has stood out each game.
In Philipsburg, the Savage Heat were down by seven at halftime, but Benson said they came out with renewed energy in the second half. “We were still down by two at the end of the third but outscored them 22-10 in the fourth,” Benson noted.
He said Weston Slonaker did a really nice job on defense in the second half, holding Superior’s top scorer to minimal points.
DePoe again was the top scorer, with 18 points and five three-pointers, Slonaker had 16, including three three-pointers, Daniel Slonaker and McAllister added eight each, Adams five, Pedro Vidotti four and Daniel Slonaker three.
