T. FALLS 73, TROY 21
The Lady Hawks of Thompson Falls hosted the Troy Lady Trojans Thursday, coming out and easily gaining 13 points before Troy would answer with their basket. Thompson would keep their lead, and only allowed the Trojans to hit a three pointer before the end of the first quarter. The Hawks kept their intense teamwork in the second quarter, with quick fast breaks that led to basket after basket. Troy had their biggest quarter before the half, scoring seven points to try and lessen the point gap. But the Hawks continued to break past the Trojan defense and had a massive lead at half time. Addy Deal came out in the third quarter with quick hands, gaining several steals that ended in baskets for the Hawks. Keeping Troy to minimal baskets, Thompson soon had the score 60-17 going into the final quarter. The Hawks kept their fire and while Troy tried to put a full court pressure on Thompson, the Hawks smoothly and effortlessly got through time and time again to put more points between the teams. Freshman Sophia Hardman earned a swift basket for the Hawks with less than half a quarter left. Aubrey Baxter got the last basket for Thompson sealing the home court win.
Gabi Hannum and Addy Deal both led for the Hawks with 15 points each, Solveig Nygaard behind with 14, and Emma Claridge had 13 points for Thompson.
T. FALLS 62, TROY 40
Then the boys hit the court, quickly gaining the first baskets over the Trojans. Putting forward great defense, the Hawk boys fell into a rhythm keeping Troy on their toes. Freshman Kellen LeCoure sank a basket to put the Hawks further in the lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter the Trojans were able to make a slight comeback and put the points within one, until Kaiden Robins got the ball and was able to find several three pointers, putting more points between the teams. After the half Troy came out to find back to back baskets, and would soon have the score 38-23. The Hawks were able to gain more baskets while keeping Troy to only scoring one more before the final. Troy wasn't going to back down in the final quarter and tried to come out big, gaining back to back baskets. Thompson was able to answer with big fast breaks that allowed them to gain several key baskets to keep their lead. While Troy was able to gain another three pointer before the buzzer, it wasn't enough to take the win from the soaring Hawks.
"We were very much looking forward to last week's games as another chance to prove ourselves against some quality competition. This Troy game was a battle between the two unbeaten teams left in 7B and we knew we would be in for a good matchup. The boys came out very focused and were able to build a nice lead in the first half and make life tough on Troy's offensive weapons," said head coach Jake Mickelson.
Kaiden Robins led with 21 points and six rebounds, Bryson LeCoure behind with 16 points and six rebounds, while Owen Doyle and Ethan Burgess had 10 points and five rebounds each.
T. FALLS 68,
SUPERIOR 40
The Blue Hawks then hit the road taking on the Superior Bobcats, coming out and quickly gaining eleven points before the Bobcats could get on the board. Superior was able to sink a three pointer before the second quarter but the Hawks already had a nine point lead. The Bobcats came out in the second quarter with new fire, and gained the back to back baskets before the Hawks could score again. Both teams would go basket for basket before the half and the Hawks would go to half time up by just six points. Thompson came out with new fire in the third and was able to quickly gain a three pointer before the Bobcats could score. Keeping Superior to minimal scoring, the Hawks would have their biggest quarter sinking a massive 25 points. Going into the final quarter the Hawks kept their solid teamwork and continued to put more points between the teams. Kellen LeCoure was able to find Jacob Howell with 30 seconds left for the final Hawk basket to seal the road win.
"In this game we came out hot in both halves, and the boys are just playing with great energy. When they play with that intensity they are tough to slow down. It is always good to get a win on the road against a conference opponent.
"We look forward to facing Mission, they gave us a good run up in Mission a couple weeks back and we are anticipating them to be hungry to face us again, as are we," stated Mickelson.
Bryson LeCoure led with 19 points and five rebounds, Owen Doyle behind with 15 points and five rebounds, while Kaiden Robins had 12 points, and Bryson McCormick had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks.
T. FALLS 60,
SUPERIOR 49
The Lady Hawks then had their turn at the Lady Bobcats, with Superior gaining the first two baskets before the Hawks could gain their own. From there the teams would go basket for basket and Thompson would end the first quarter down by just one point. The Hawks came out with new fire in the second quarter and quickly gained the first basket to take back the lead. Keeping the Bobcats on their toes, the Hawks kept them to minimal scoring while putting up an incredible 18 points before the half, putting the score 31-23. The Hawks kept their momentum headed into the third quarter and continued to shut down Superior while gaining more points. In the final quarter the Bobcats would try to make a comeback, gaining back to back baskets before the Hawks had time to score. With just a minute left in the quarter the Bobcats were down by 10 points. They tried to make a comeback but they were no match for the on fire Hawks who took the 60-49 win.
Annalise Fairbank led with 16 points, Addy Deal behind with 13 points, Solveig Nygaard had 11 points, and Aubrey Baxter had seven for the Hawks.
The Hawks host the Mission Bulldogs on Tuesday with results being in next week's Ledger. They hit the road for a county rival rematch against the Plains Horsemen and Trotters on February 6.
